Coleen has been practicing law since 2006, where she began her career as a Colorado State Public Defender. Coleen was mentored in the early part of her career by national experts in cross examination, and she gained substantial experience in the most important skill in litigation- the art of the jury trial. A lot of attorneys are not comfortable in the courtroom, but for Coleen, the jury trials and contested hearings where she fights for her clients are her favorite part of practicing law. Coleen has a history of success in the courtroom, and she will not allow a Prosecutor or opposing attorney to intimidate her.
A large part of Coleen’s practice is defending criminal cases and handling DMV proceedings (often proceedings related to a DUI arrest). Coleen prides herself on always starting with her client’s goals. For example, in her criminal cases, Coleen thoroughly advises clients on options, then moves the focus to the client’s goals: For example, some clients desire a quick resolution through a plea bargain, and some want to shout “not guilty” and fight the charges all the way. Coleen also has a high success rate in seeking and defending protection order claims. Liquidation under Chapter 7 is very helpful for people who can’t make regular payments toward their debts.
Coleen holds a prestigious appointment with the Colorado Office of Alternate Defense Counsel. In addition to the Colorado state courts, Coleen is licensed to practice in Colorado federal court, in the state of New Mexico, and for the Southern Ute Tribal Court. Coleen is a member of the National College of DUI Defense, and she is active in the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar and the Colorado Bar Association.
